Train Service East of Speonk Will Be Replaced by Buses Due to Snow

There will be no overnight or morning trains on the Montauk LIRR line east of Speonk.

The Long Island Rail Road has canceled Tuesday night and Wednesday morning train service between Montauk and Speonk, due to .

The cancellation effects trains that were scheduled to depart after the 6:17 p.m. train from Jamaica, which is scheduled to arrive in Montauk at 9:07 p.m. Buses will be provided for customers heading east of Speonk, starting with the 8:53 p.m. train from Jamaica, scheduled to arrive Montauk at 11:57 p.m.

The LIRR said on its website that storm preperation has begun, with snow-fighting equipment being readied to keep rails free of ice and snow

"While the LIRR will work to keep train service operating on all 11 branches, it may be necessary to temporarily suspend train service when snow accumulations reach between 10 and 13 inches to avoid stranding trains and for the safety of our customers and employees," the website states. "These temporary suspensions, while snow is removed from the tracks and third rail, will continue until safe and reliable service can be restored."
