Special Friday Hamptons Trains Canceled
The LIRR is calling off this weekend's Hamptons-bound trains due to Irene.
The Long Island Rail Road's Friday trains, which are specifically designed to bring people for New York to the Hamptons for the weekend, have been canceled in light of Hurricane Irene.
The following trains are canceled:
- 1:49 p.m. from Hunterspoint due in Montauk at 4:45 p.m.
- 4:30 p.m. from Hunterspoint due in Montauk at 7:35 p.m.
- 5:09 p.m. from Penn Station due in Montauk at 8:29 p.m. will instead terminate at Speonk at 7:13 p.m.
- 7:38 p.m. from Jamaica due in Montauk at 10:10 p.m.
The LIRR said the cancellations are a result of removing train equipment from low-lying areas that are prone to flooding, making them unavailable for the Hamptons run.

While the 3:58 p.m. train from Penn Station to Montauk will operate Friday, it will run on its Thursday schedule, arriving at Montauk at 6:45 p.m., and there will be no Hampton Reserve cars.
"Because of the severity of the wind and rain associated with a hurricane, there may be a partial or full shut down of LIRR service prior to the storm making landfall on Long Island to ensure the safety of our customers and employees," the LIRR stated.
