With the brunt of Winter Storm Nemo expected to hit Southampton this evening, Southampton Village Mayor Mark Epley has issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency Friday effective 6 p.m.
The village notes that the nor'easter is expected to include blizzard conditions, heavy snowfall, frozen roadways and wind gusts reaching 60 miles per hour.
To accommodate plowing and protect public safety, the village is asking that vehicles parked along main roads be moved.
The mayor's order is in conjunction with the Southampton Fire Department, which assists in carrying out emergency operations as they become necessary, such as evacuations.
