Southampton Town Offers Money to Preserve Historic Structures
The money is being put on the table to help preserve history before it is gone.
Southampton Town — one of the oldest municipalities in the United States, settled in 1640 — has more than 2,000 historic structures. And while many of them stand proud, more than a few have been neglected due to the economy.
In an effort to preserve the town's vast history, Southampton Town's Landmarks and Historic District Board has launched a Landmarks Maintenance Program that aims to encourage owners of historic structures to designate them as landmarks, rather than demolish them and in return obtain funding to maintain them.

According to the Landmarks Board, approximately $20,000 may be awarded annually to owners of designated town landmarks who qualify for the Town’s STAR and Enhanced STAR programs.
An application for the funding is available on the town’s website here, with a deadline of October 4, 2013. Awards will be announced in early January 2014.

Tax deductible donations to fund the program are also welcome, says the board.
