Southampton Police Back Online After Lightning Strike

Southampton Town Police Chief Robert Pearce said that all systems are back online now after lightning struck a communications tower at the headquarters in Hampton Bays this morning.

According to Pearce 911 emergency calls were never compromised but in-house telephones and dispatching capabilities were. Town police had to switch over to its mobile command center, which operates out of a van parked at the station. Dispatching has now returned to normal and the phones are back in operation according to Pearce.

All told, Pearce said the disruptions lasted about an hour and a half.
