UPDATE: The shelter will be open again on Tuesday night.
With thermometers dipping to freezing temperatures Monday night, the Southampton United Methodist Church opened its doors as a shelter at 7 p.m.
Individuals and families who were displaced by Hurricane Sandy are welcome, as well as those who have a roof over their heads, but still no heat and electricity.
There are restrooms, but no showers. Light snacks will be served, and a charging station for electronics is available.
No animals are permitted.
The church is located at 160 Main Street in Southampton Village.
