Southampton Methodist Opens Shelter

For families displaced by Hurricane Sandy, or without heat at home, church provides accommodations.

UPDATE: The shelter will be open again on Tuesday night.

With thermometers dipping to freezing temperatures Monday night, the Southampton United Methodist Church opened its doors as a shelter at 7 p.m.

Individuals and families who were displaced by Hurricane Sandy are welcome, as well as those who have a roof over their heads, but still no heat and electricity.

There are restrooms, but no showers. Light snacks will be served, and a charging station for electronics is available.

No animals are permitted.

The church is located at 160 Main Street in Southampton Village.
