Sag Harbor Village in State of Emergency; Shelter Opens
Pierson High School available as a shelter to village residents as of 9 a.m.
Mayor Brian Gilbride declared a state of emergency in Sag Harbor Village as of 6 p.m. Sunday, and a shelter opened Monday at 9 a.m. for residents who decide to evacuate.
The mayor has not ordered any mandatory evacuations, but residents in low lying floodprone areas, such as Redwood, may evacuate to the shelter — or make other arrangements for a place to stay — at their discretion.
The shelter is located at Pierson High School. Also, the American Red Cross is operating a shelter at Hampton Bays High School.

The shelter does not accept pets. If residents cannot make other arrangements, the village states that it will try to accommodate pets that are crated and have food and medicine supplied.
Southampton Town and Southampton Village are also in states of emergency, and residents of low lying areas are under evacuation orders. The Shinnecock Indian Reservation evacuated as well.
