Rogers Budget Passes; Burns, Halsey Elected

$4.15 million budget approved.

The 2012 budget passed handily Friday, 154-63, and Glenn Halsey Jr. and Fran Burns were elected to the board of trustees, outrunning third-place finisher Howard Samborn.

The new budget is $4.15 million, up $122,618 over 2010. taxpayers are responsible for $3,651,297, which they approved 153-63, and taxpayers are responsible for $423,721, which they approved 43-12. The remainder of anticipated revenue comes from state library aid, payments in lieu of taxes and income such as fines, fees, donations and interest.

The new estimated tax rate is $0.1745 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

Halsey secured 175 votes and Burns had 165. Their terms begin in January and continue through the end of 2015. Samborn came up short in the three-way race for two seats with just 98 votes.

Halsey is chief financial officer for . Burns worked in print and advertising and as a public school teacher, but is now retired.
