Puppy Mill Dogs Need Homes

Southampton has some loving pets available for adoption.

This week, the Southampton Animal Shelter is looking to find a homes for Clyde, Trixie, Bridget, Chanel, Annie, Gracie, Bernice, and Claudette — all rescued from a life as breeding stock at puppy mills by No More Tears Rescue.

According to Donald Bambrick, the animal shelter supervisor, the Southampton Animal Shelter partners with No More Tears, which was featured in the HBO documentary “Madonna of the Mills,” to rescue adult dogs that would otherwise be destined to spend their lives in cages being continuously bred to provide income for puppy millers.

"These dogs have had a very hard life but now it can only get better," Bambrick said, "They’ve finally been given medical attention, a safe place to stay and the love and attention of the shelter staff and volunteers. Now all they need is their forever homes."

All animals are licensed, up to date on their vaccinations, micro-chipped and have been spayed or neutered, according to Bambrick.

Adoption fees typically range from $40 to $60 for a cat and from $60 to $125 for a dog.
