PHOTOS: Run-down Rhodes House Gets a Paint Job

Historic property at 22 Windmill Lane undergoing a cleanup after citations.

On Friday, workers painted the facade of the boarded up Rhodes House at 22 Windmill Lane white, making a property Southampton Village Board members less of an eyesore. The owner was recently cited with fire code violations and that included removing junk accumulated over the years at the unoccupied building and clearcutting overgrown bamboo. Under neath the facade, the original parts of the building date back to before the Revolutionary War, making the Rhodes House one of the oldest structures still standing in Southampton, according to Robert Strada, a historic restoration expert.
