Construction expected to last until just before Thanksgiving.

Work is currently being done along the north side of Route 27 in Bridgehampton to level the sidewalk and replace the brick, and is expected to be done before Thanksgiving.

According to a foreman with the contractor, Mineola-based Long Island Masonry and Concrete, the area of the sidewalk where the concrete met the bricks previously sagged, creating an area for water to collect and freeze during colder months, creating a hazard to pedestrians.

The brick had also risen up in several places, around the roots of the trees lining the side of the road. The foreman said metal wires would be placed underneath the brick, which was not previously the case, allowing the bricks to withstand further growth of the trees for a longer period of time.
