Buses replace trains. Hill Station Road to be closed for weeks.

Bus service will replace trains between Speonk and Montauk through at least part of Sunday due to a truck striking a railroad overpass in Southampton.

said a flat bed truck became wedged under the railroad trestle at Hill Station Road on Friday at 4:18 p.m., damaging the trestle’s structural integrity. LIRR spokesman Sam Zambuto said it is likely several hundred customers will be affected. Eastbound customers will transfer to a bus at the Speonk train station, and westbound customers will board buses at their starting points and transfer to the train at Speonk to reach their destination, he said.

Hill Station Road, between Club Drive and McGregor Drive, will be closed for three to four weeks as a safety precaution as repairs are made to the train trestle, police said. The Southampton Town Highway Department barricaded the road and Metropolitan Transportation Authority personnel will be present to ensure no vehicles pass, according to police.
