New Outages Crop Up in Southampton

More than two dozen individual areas report power outages Tuesday.

Scattered outages are being reported around Southampton Town, though most areas hit are small with only one or a handful of houses being affected.

There are some bigger outages: In Mecox, more than a 1,000 outages are reported, and around 228 LIPA customers are without power in Bridgehampton between Butter Lane and Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike, according to LIPA's website. Another 31 are reported in Quogue near Scrub Oak road.

A LIPA lineworker in Hampton Bays said hundreds of outages have been reported across Long Island starting Tuesday morning, as rain hit the area. Showers are expected to continue through Thursday, culminating with lightning storms. He said the outages may be caused by temporary repairs that were made following Tropical Storm Irene failing.
