Mick Hargreaves Recovering Following Crowbar Assault

Musician attacked a few hours after a gig in Bayport, police say.

A Southampton musician , where he performed earlier in the night, is alert and talking at in East Patchogue, a family member said Monday.

Police said Mick Hargreaves, 39, was assaulted with a crowbar outside at 3:45 a.m. Sunday by a homeless man, Jalaluddin Khojandi, 25, who was apprehended that afternoon in Huntington Station and charged with felony assault.

"Mick is alert, talking, has all his memory and the nurse said he has no deficits, meaning he has no outward signs of numbness, he can move all his fingers," his sister, Jennifer Hargreaves of Westchester said.

He has two very large lacerations in his head, which have been stapled shut, and two fractures of his skull, one around the right ear and one around the back of his head, she said.

“He’s doing OK,” Hargreaves said. “He’s extremely lucky from what I understand.”

Suffolk County police have not released details concerning a motive behind the attack.

Hargreaves performs as a headliner and is a long-time bassist for Caroline Doctorow.
