Lucia's Room Ribbon Cut at Hospital

Southampton Hospital debuts its new room for women with cancer.

Southampton Hospital unveiled a new patient room last Tuesday designed for patients suffering from late-term women's cancers and their families.

Known as Lucia's Room, it is the result of a fundraising effort by Lucia’s Angels, a foundation created in memory of Lucia Terzi Bagan.

According to the foundation's website, the room is modeled after the rooms at Hospice Inn in Huntington, where Bagan spent her last days. "The rooms at the Hospice Inn are much more comfortable than a typical hospital room and also provide more amenities for family and loved ones," the website reads. "Unfortunately, there is no such facility or anything similar out on the East End of Long Island."

Now, with the opening of Lucia's Room, there is.

Interior designer Barbara Fox-Rosa decorated the room. The hospital’s fee for stays in Lucia's Room will be no more than the least expensive double patient room.

Dignitaries attending the ribbon cutting included Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst, Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman and New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. Jane Finalborgo represented U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop, and hospital officials included President and CEO Robert Chaloner, board chairman the Rev. Peter Larsen, chief nursing officer Patricia Darcey, and Breast Center community outreach coordinator Susan Roden.

Lucia's Angels President and Stacy Quarty and board members Mary Quatroche and Moira Sabo represented the foundation.
