Last Chance to Get Your Tax Returns In

The two extra days to get your returns submitted are quickly coming to a close.

Since April 15 fell on a Sunday this year, there are two more days to finish filing 2011 taxes.

Monday is Emancipation Day, a holiday in Washington D.C. that celebrates the freeing of slaves in the district — so that's why you didn't have to have them in on April 16.

Federal and New York State Income Tax Returns or extensions must be filed by April 17 at 11:59 p.m. to avoid penalties if you owe the government money.

For those of who still file taxes by mail, the United States Post Office locations in , , and will be open until 5 p.m. Tuesday, and the Sagaponack Post Office will close at 4 p.m. An estimated 80 percent of those filing taxes do so electronically. But, if you are in desperate need of a postmark a bit later, head to the — which is open until 6 p.m.
