Irene Scenes: Storm Batters Hampton Bays

There is flooding, fallen trees, downed power lines, power outages, and at least one fire.

In Hampton Bays on Sunday morning, spectators tried to get to the Ponquogue Bridge, but the road was flooded and police would not let them pass. Rampusture Point residents who did not evacuate are now stuck, as Rampasture Road is impassable to any vehicle but a fire truck. Springvillage Road, just south of Rampasture Road, is also flooded and impassable. A tree and power lines are down across the south end of Ponquogue Avenue, right at the intersection with Shinnecock Road. Many side streets are blocken by fallen trees.
