Heroin, Painkiller OD Treatment Training Offered Saturday

Shinnecock SAMP provides free Narcan training for preventing overdose deaths.

In an effort to save lives, the Shinnecock Indian Nation's Substance Abuse Mobilization Project is hosting a one-day training session Saturday on how to administer an injection that can prevent overdose deaths.

Taking place at the Shinnecock Church Parrish Hall, the free workshop will be led by Dr. Tom Jann, who will teach participants how to use Narcan.

Narcan is like an antidote to opioids such as heroin, methodone, oxycodone, morphine and Vicodin.

The session begins at 11 a.m. Saturday.  Call the Rev. Mike Smith at 631-680-3326 to RSVP.

The program is sponsored by SAMP and Long Island Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependencies.
