As of Dec. 31, 2012, Shonda Pettaway, of Southampton Village, has lost her health insurance — after her cancer returned and she could no longer work.
“She’s been battling for five years,” said her son Tramar. He said she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which went into remission, but now it is back, and has spread throughout her body.
To help cover Pettaway's medical bills, her family has put together a benefit Friday at 230 Elm, with entertainment, food and raffles.
DJ Hollywood will provide the music.
In addition to her four children, Treva, Tramar, Porsha and Travon, Shonda Pettaway has a daughter-in-law, Chanelle Gregory-Pettaway, and a grandson, Taylen Pettaway. She is married to Roggie Pettaway, a.k.a. DJ Rah-G-Raj.
Prizes have been donated by Therapy Clothing, Samantha Sosa Cassagnol's PoshNY Hair, and more local businesses and community members. Also, a 50-inch flatscreen television will be raffled off, with tickets for $10 each.
The fundraiser begins at 8 p.m. Friday and continues until midnight. Admission is $15, at the door. RSVP on Facebook.
