Suffolk County is in the midst of digging a 120-foot-by-280-foot recharge basin for stormwater runoff along County Road 39 in Southampton.
The sump is just west of Tuckahoe Road, on the south side of County Road 39.
According to Jakki O’Neill, a legislative aide for county , the project costs $208,000 and is expected to be complete in two weeks. It is designed to alleviate flooding in the area. O’Neill said Suffolk bought the 1 acre parcel for $190,000 from the in December 2009.
