'Civility' Event Planned on Steps of Town Hall Friday

Leaders will vow to bring civility to public discourse.

In the wake of the shooting in Arizona that took six lives and left 14 victims injured, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, local leaders in Southampton plan to stand on the steps of Friday to express sympathy for the victims and make a commitment to civility — regardless of personal beliefs or party affiliation.

The event, titled  “Coming Together For Civility," will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, according to a press release from Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst's office.

Community leaders expected to attend include elected officials, fire, police and ambulance chiefs, VFW leaders, local ministers, school representatives and more, the release states.
