Car Loses Tire, Ties Up Westbound Traffic on County Road 39
One westbound lane closed.
A Nissan Altima lost its tire while headed west on County Road 39 around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, obstructing traffic.
The disabled vehicle stopped across the street from the Shell gas station at the Greenfield Road intersection blocking one of the two westbound lanes.
"The car started shaking, and all of a sudden the car bottomed out," said the driver, Vincent Passaro of Smithtown. No other vehicles were involved.

An East Hampton Village police officer, who happened to be driving by, was the first at the scene. Southampton Town police arrived next.
