Bike Lane Improvements Planned

New bike lanes and upgrades to existing bike routes slated for spring 2013.

The New York State Department of Transportation is planning a number of improvements along Montauk Highway to make connections in the South Fork bike route, according to state Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr.

Bike routes and lanes will advance safe and reliable transportation for "non-motorized travelers," Thiele said in a statement from his office.

The South Fork bike route project's target areas are:

  • Knoll Road to Tuckahoe Lane, install bike lane, eliminate parking on pavement, repair shoulder, signage, apply pavement markings.
  • Little Cobb Road to Station Road, upgrade bike route and signage.
  • Poxabogue Lane to Stephen Hands Path, upgrade bike route to bike lane, eliminate parking on pavement, repair shoulder, signage, apply pavement markings.
  • Bluff Road to Dunes Lane, upgrade bike route to bike lane, eliminate parking on pavement, repair shoulder, signage, apply pavement markings.
  • Navahoe Road to Eton Road, upgrade bike route to bike lane, eliminate parking on pavement, repair shoulder, signage, apply pavement markings.
  • South Etna Avenue to Montauk Point, upgrade bike route to bike lane, eliminate parking on pavement, repair shoulder, signage, apply pavement markings.

The projects are in the design phase and expected to commence in spring
2013.
