Vice President Joe Biden is headed to the Hamptons this week, according to a flight restriction notice the Federal Aviation Administration issued Monday.
From Wednesday through next Monday, the sky around Southampton Village is designated "National Defense Airspace," and from 9:45 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Gabreski Airport airspace in Westhampton is restricted for his arrival.
Gabreski is where Biden typically flies into for his sojourns in the Hamptons, and during his he stayed at a private residence on First Neck Lane in the village.
"Pilots who do not adhere to the following procedures may be intercepted, detained and interviewed by law enforcement/security personnel," the notice reads. Pilots could also face civil or criminal penalties, and, the notice warns, "The United State government may use deadly force against the airborne aircraft, if it is determined that the aircraft poses an imminent security threat."
Exceptions to the flight restrictions include law enforcement, firefighting and military aircraft "directly supporting the United States Secret Service and the Office of the Vice President of the United States."
The New York Daily News website reported Tuesday that Bill and Hillary Clinton are Hamptons-bound as well. The Daily News' Gatecrasher blog says the Clintons have rented real estate mogul Elie Hirschfeld's oceanfront East Hampton mansion on Lily Pond Lane from Aug. 22 through 28. The FAA has yet to issue any flight restrictions in East Hampton on those dates.
President Barack Obama will be in New York City this Thursday and Friday, according to FAA flight restrictions.
