Beachgoers Beat the Heat at Coopers

Sand fills with towels and beach chairs as temperature reaches toward 90.

Families, couples and students came from near and far to enjoy the weather and cool off at Coopers Beach in Southampton Village Wednesday afternoon.

Austin Bee, a freshman at who was hanging out with his friends, said the high temperature influenced them to head to the beach after classes. He said he typically comes to the beach after school once it gets warm enough; Wednesday marked his first day this year.

Ron Ezring, who was reading in a beach chair after taking a dip, said he headed to Southampton with his wife Wednesday morning from Port Washington after learning the humidity was going to be high and the temperature would be near 90 degrees. "This is a great place to be," he said,"sitting under his beach umbrella." The ocean is cold, he said, "not for the faint of heart."
