Aerial Photos: The Old Boathouse Lies in Ruins

Superstorm Sandy destroyed Meadow Lane landmark.

Southampton Village lost an unofficial landmark on Meadow Lane's bayside when Superstorm Sandy hit. The powerful storm ripped the roof from the structure.

The site is on Shinnecock Bay, across from 1280 Meadow Lane. As of Dec. 28, the Old Boathouse still lay flattened, however, the owners hope to restore it, and keep its rustic look.

Photographer John Todaro wrote about the boathouse on his blog after shooting it in May 2011, while kayaking in Shinnecock Bay. "For Southampton, the boathouse is a footnote to a local history which is all but gone," he wrote. "It stands (at least for now) as a monument to former times."
