UPDATE: County Road 39 Eastbound Reopens

At least two vehicles involved in crash.

Update 7:20 p.m. - County Road 39 eastbound is back open following an accident that involved two or more vehicles.

County Road 39 eastbound in Southampton is closed at Tuckahoe Lane, as wreckers take away two vehicles involved in an accident.

The accident happened before 6:30 p.m. It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, between a  Honda S2000, with airbags deployed and severe front-end damge, and a Chevrolet Trailblazer with minimal visable damage. It is possible that other vechicles were involved.

Multiple ambulance vehicles from Southampton Volunteer Ambulance were on scene, as well as Southampton Town police.

Vechicles are being detoured down Tuckahoe Lane, to Montauk Highway, but the detour traffic is backed up as eastbound vehicles make left turns onto Montauk Highway. Vehicles headed north on Tuckahoe Lane from Montauk Highway are at a standstill, because they canot get past the County Road 39 intersection.

so on a rainy friday night, not even during summer season, yet another accident on cr39, the road that has been evaluated as at its maximum capacity now and the town board is actually considering permitting a zone change to allow the building of a shopping center on cr39 that would draw, by the developer's own count, 2,500 more cars a day to the road. is the board not responsible for our safety or is it more interested in the political contributions to their coffers from this developer?

Yet another preventable accident if only the town and the police strictly and consistently enforced the speed limit. Folks regularly drive 55 to 60 MPH which allows no margin of error when things go wrong. Wonder how many more people will be hurt and or killed before the police do their job...

How many accidents before the town wakes up?! How can they even consider adding a massive suburban strip mall?!!
