Winter Spectacular Set To Frost the Harbor

From ice sculpting to a fireworks show, HarborFrost brings out the community.

Maybe it hasn't been quite so frosty this winter, but just wait until Saturday when HarborFrost hits Sag Harbor.

Now in , the winter festival promises to be a fun filled day for people of all ages, complete with ice sculpting, music, store and restaurant specials, a polar bear plunge and even a fireworks display.

"It's a nice winter weekend," said Village Mayor Brian Gilbride. "It's just nice to see the community out and around the harbor, in the restaurants, out for the day," he said, adding that it builds a sense of community while also drumming up business during the slower winter months.

Organized by the , festivities begin with in-store specials at stores along Main Street from noon to 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, the harbor will be filled with music in certain shops thanks to the Sag Harbor American Music Festival. The Peter Weiss Trio, which will fill with jazz, starting at noon. A half-hour later singer-songwriter Robert Bruey will perform at and at 1 p.m., singer-songwriter Harley Lancia will serenade those at Life'Style. Alfredo Merat will bring "World Beat" to at 1:30 p.m. and the Vanessa Trouble Quartet will sing the American Songbook at BookHampton at 2 p.m.

Then, the ice sculpting that amazed many during the inaugural HarborFrost in 2011, is back. A Fear No ice funhouse will take place at the .

If you're up for a dip in the harbor, take the Frosty Plunge off the beach by the windmill at 3:30 p.m. Last year, even NBC's The Today Show host Matt Lauer took the plunge. 's hot soup will warm you up and if that doesn't do the trick you can take a hot shower at . 

The fun won't be over just yet, Fear No Ice will set up games for all at the Civil War monument at 4 p.m.

Head back over to the Long Wharf at 5:45 p.m. for a Fiery Sensations show, followed by "a hot surprise" from Fear No ice at 6 p.m.

To end the outdoor entertainment of the evening, Grucci will put on a fireworks display over the harbor at 6:15 p.m.

Other specials include a culinary stroll of Main Street restaurants, for $40. Sign up at between 2 and 3 p.m. Special givewaways include turkey chili and spice tea at from 3 to 5 p.m. And, a quiz bowl “competition” at BookHampton, where students will take on anyone, at 4 p.m. Sag Harbor Booster Foundation is also having a , at at 7:30 p.m. $30 at the door benefits district kids

It's great that Sag Harbor does this in the winter for the locals. Too bad old stuffy EH Village doesn't do anything like this. And, no, the LVIS fair doesn't count!!!

We missed this last year, I'm so glad we'll be able to make it this year...It looks like it will be a lot of fun!

We were having dinner in the Paradise when a bunch of people having fun wit crazy hats entered and went to the bar. We asked our waitress what was going on and she told us of this festival! Too bad it rained like heck all day! People had a great time despite the weather - FUN!

I am SO with Yearounder! East Hampton does ZILCH for the locals. This festival is a great idea not just for the locals to enjoy but to create a little more revenue for businesses which have slowed down for the winter. Cant wait!
