Water Mill Suffolk County National Bank Branch Closes Next Friday

Decision made after efficiency study.

After more than 30 years, the Water Mill branch of the Suffolk County National Bank will shutter on Oct. 4.

The small branch, complete with a drive-thru, is located on the corner of Montauk Highway and Nowedonah Avenue, just east of the hamlet center. It is the only bank in Water Mill.

Frank Filipo, the executive vice president at Suffolk County National Bank, said the decision to close the Water Mill branch, along with a branch in Middle Island, was announced three months ago after "an overall efficiency study" was completed.

Asked if employees at the branch would lose their jobs, he said, "Most of the people in the Water Mill branch are being relocated within the company," he said.

The bank owns the building, which is up for sale.

There are 27 other branches of the Suffolk County National Bank. Nearby branches are located in Southampton, Sag Harbor, and two locations in East Hampton.

The Water Mill branch will close on Oct. 4 at 3 p.m.
