Try Driver's Seat's Famous Baked Clam Casserole

Casserole is an excellent dish for seafood lovers.

The Driver's Seat on Jobs Lane in Southampton Village has been a landmark institution in the Hamptons for more than 50 years. It is now gearing up for another busy summer season. The restaurant continues to draw local patrons in the off season and has become a popular meeting place for the summer crowd. Since its renovations in 2005, the bright and airy decor and patio dining provides a welcome spot to come in for a cocktail after a day at the beach, or a delicious meal when you don't want to break the bank. Owner Irma Herzog is always on hand to make sure customers are happy and enjoying their dining experience.

The restaurant has many homemade dishes, a choice of fresh fish daily, lunch and dinner specials and comfort foods. It is child friendly, with a kids menu. There is free parking in the rear.

The Dish: Famous Baked Clam Casserole ($12)

What's Inside: It is filled with chopped clams and a bunch of tasty seasonings including bread crumbs, made into a stuffing, and then baked to in a casserole until crispy on top. It comes with lemon wedges and crackers. Once you taste it, you'll be coming back for more. It is available for lunch or dinner.

How's It Taste: One of the nice things about the Driver's Seat Famous Baked Clam Casserole is that it has never changed. It has been consistently an excellent dish for seafood lovers. People come in specifically for this dish — and it certainly lives up to expectations. So it tastes good.
