Topping Rose House Gives First Look at Hotel

Bill Campbell and Simon Critchell unveil Bridgehampton hotel.

Dozens were given their first glimpse inside the hotel at Bridgehampton's Topping Rose House June 12, as its opening was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception.

Topping Rose House is a restored 1842 Greek revival mansion, named for Judge Abraham Topping Rose. Architect Roger Ferris & Partners designed the reconstruction plan and modern additions and interior design firm Champalimaud decorated the rooms. The hotel portion, which began receiving guests at the beginning of May, has 22 rooms, plus there is a restaurant operated by celebrity chef Tom Colicchio and chef de cuisine Ty Kotz.

General manager Pradeep Raman hosted the ceremony, with food and cocktails by Colicchio and Kotz, who prepared dishes using ingredients grown on-site. The event included the planting of a tree by Raman and Topping Rose House owners Bill Campbell and Simon Critchell. The tree was a Japanese maple, planted across from a longstanding Japanese maple at the site. "This act symbolized Campbell and Critchell’s intent with Topping Rose House — marrying historic elements with a modern perspective," read a statement from Topping Rose House.

Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst helped Campbell and Critchell cut the ribbon.

In addition to the main house and restaurant, which are decorated with works by local artists Clifford Ross and Peter Dayton, there are four new cottages, a restored barn, a contemporary event studio, heated outdoor pool, 1-acre farm and a spa by East Hampton's Naturopathica.
