'The Classic' is Favorite at World Pie

Bridgehampton staple offers assortment of pizza choices.

A staple in Bridgehampton for 11 years, is still a very popular place. This local favorite is a casual spot with friendly service, an extensive menu, full bar and to-go food as well. With 21 types of pizza and 18 different toppings ($3 each) to choose from, you can have a veritable feast. World Pie also offers "boutique toppings," including meatball, sundried tomato, smoked mozzarella, goat cheese and clams ($4 each). They only use the finest and freshest ingredients. Everything at World Pie is prepared fresh and cooked to order. Call ahead (631-537-7999) and you can pick up your order to go — usually in less than 15 minutes. Every Friday from 4 to 6 p.m., you can enjoy the "Happiest two hours in the Hamptons" with Jimmy Mac behind the bar, free food and great drink specials. Your hostess, Cookie, will make you feel at home.

The Dish: Pizza margherita, known at World Pie as "The Classic." The pie comes in two sizes, 10-inch ($17) and 18-inch ($20).

What's Inside: Tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and fresh basil. If you dont want cheese, just ask. Additional toppings extra. ($3 each for most toppings, $4 for boutique toppings.)

How's It Taste? The sauce is bursting with flavor and not too heavy with the spices. The cheese is perfectly melted, not overcooked, and the crust is classic New York-style thin.

Sides: Wood-roasted calamari salad ($12.00) is a perfect starter or side dish to go with your pizza. The calamari is perfectly roasted so it is not at all rubbery — as some can be. It is sprinkled with oreganata bread crumbs, which gives it a little punch, and served over a bed of mixed greens. Squeeze some lemon over it and you're good to go. 
 
Dessert: Pappa John's apple pie ($6.00), is made with golden delicious apples cooked to perfection, sprinkled with an oatmeal crumb topping, served in a pastry bowl and topped with vanilla gelato. Whipped cream and strawberries on the side make this a perfect dessert.
