Southampton Hospital Coalition for Women's Cancers Honored

The SASS Foundation for Medical Research, Inc. recognized Southampton Hospital’s Coalition for Women’s Cancers (CWC) with the Gerry Trunz Memorial Award, during its 7th Annual “Day of Education and Healing: The Ovarian/Breast Connection” at The East Wind Conference Center in Riverhead. The award is given in memory of a courageous mother of four who lost her battle with ovarian cancer at the age of 50.

The SASS Foundation was incorporated in 1986 by Marty and Barbara Sass. It is a 501C(3) charity which has contributed to a better understanding of all types of cancers and educating physicians, nurses, patients and the public on the most advanced detection procedures and treatments available. Every year, the Foundation provides medical research grants to permit state-of-the-art research in the war against cancer. More information can be found at www.sassfoundation.org.

“We know that early detection is key to increasing the survival rate in cancers affecting women,” said Susan Barry Roden, President of the CWC. “Being proactive is imperative.”

The CWC provides education and support for women and families on the East End of Long Island. More information can be found at www.cwcshh.org.
