Oceanside's Flowers by Topaz Comes to Southampton

Oceanside florist opens second shop in Southampton after losing his home to Superstorm Sandy.

After Superstorm Sandy destroyed his Oceanside home, florist and event decorator Mark Masone relocated his family to East Hampton, but he kept his nearly 20-year-old Oceanside business Flowers by Topaz open — and now, he's opened a second location, in Southampton Village.

Like many florists, Flowers by Topaz carried vases and small gifts, but it also has many offerings one wouldn't typically expect to find when shopping for flowers, such as paintings, teddy bears and incense.  For the kids — and the adult with a sweet tooth — there is a counter with loose candy for sale, from gummy sharks to pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate. There are many wine-related products, like bottle stoppers, wine racks, and stakes that can be stuck in the ground to hold bottles and glasses at a picnic.

Masone has been planning the store since January, said employee Kember Greco, a Southampton Village resident. In addition to individual fresh bouquets ready to go, she said Flowers by Topaz offers custom arrangements, corsages and more. In his portfolio, Masone even has a red dress made of roses. And in addition to providing arrangements for events, he can plan the whole event too, Greco said.

Flowers by Topaz's Southampton shop is located at 20 Jagger Lane, in a space formerly occupied by Wonder Florist. The new store debuted in time for Memorial Day weekend, and a public grand opening party is being planned for July.
