Local Restaurants Win Wine Spectator Awards

The American Hotel in Sag Harbor and Oso and Red/Bar Brasserie in Southampton were recognized for distinguished wine lists.

Wine Spectator Magazine's annual Restaurant Wine List Awards has recognized three local restaurants for outstanding selections.

in Sag Harbor is one of just 74 eateries across the country to receive the Grand Award, the magazine's highest honor.

The award is given to restaurants that typically offer 1,500 selections or more, and "feature serious breadth of top producers … mature vintages … excellent harmony with the menu and superior … presentation and wine service."

and in Southampton each received an Award of Excellence, the basic Wine Spectator Award. Wine Spectator has handed out about 2,800 awards of excellence.

The American Hotel, offering contemporary French entrees, specializes in wines from France, California and Italy, according to the Wine Spectator. The restaurant offers more than 2,500 selections and has an inventory of 30,000 bottles.

This is the 30th anniversary of the magazine's Restaurant Awards program, which accepts entries from restaurants across the country in January of each year.

The award winners will be listed in the Aug. 31 issue of Wine Spectator and remain listed in the restaurant database on the magazine's website.
