Bites Nearby: Can't Miss the Fish at The Plaza Café

Southampton Village restaurant known for fresh seafood and wine dinners.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Southampton Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

— Located behind the 71 Hill Street complex by Jobs and Windmill Lanes in Southampton Village, this restaurant, which has received excellent reviews from The New York Times, Zagat and Newsday, is known for its wine dinners. On Sundays, customers can bring their own wine without paying a corkage fee. The restaurant also offers classes led by chef and owner Doug Gulija, a Johnson & Wales graduate who has trained in France. The Plaza specializes in seafood and "new American" cuisine, and the wine list is exclusively local and domestic. Before their meal, diners are offered a free amuse bouche, a sampling of one of Gulija's dishes in progress.

61 Hill St, Southampton Village. Winter hours: Open for dinner at 5:30 Thursday through Saturday. Closed Sunday through Wednesday. 631-283-9323.
