Barrister's Will Close Its Doors Sunday

The Southampton Village restaurant has been open for 35 years.

Barrister's restaurant, located on Main Street in Southampton Village since the late 1970s, is closing for good.

On its Facebook page, the restaurant announced the closure: "Tomorrow, 9/25/13, is our final Bail-Out Burger Wednesday...Thursday is our final Two-For-One Prime Rib night...Friday is our last Friday, Saturday, the same, and Sunday, our final Sunday Brunch."

Michael Ferran, the owner, could not be reached for comment. Barrister's remains listed on Corcoran's website for sale with a price tag of $4.1 million, which includes the business and two second-floor apartments. According to the listing, the restaurants seats 55, plus 10 at the bar, 55 on the seasonal patio and 16 on the sidewalk.

An all-day closing party will be held on Sunday.

Faran and Richard "Digger" McMahon, both Southampton College graduates who had worked as bartenders at Barrister's, bought it in 1979

"None of this works, of course, without staff. Barrister's has always been fortunate in this regard," its website reads, adding that many started as students. "Some of our employees have been with us for 25 years. In the restaurant world, that's amazing, and for Barrister's, that's good."

Back in April, an unsourced one-line item in New York Post's "Side Dish" column published online April 21 reported that the owner of 75 Main restaurant in Southampton Village was going to take over another Barrister's, but then issued a retraction.

At the time, Ferran said he was "not in talks to sell the eatery or any other asset to Zach Erdem."
