10 Places to Choose a Christmas Tree

Close to town or on your way home from shopping around the North and South forks, you'll find an excellent selection to grace your home with the scent of pine.

Whether picking out the perfect Christmas tree is an old tradition in your family or a new one you are just starting, you will find a wide choice of cut, live or cut-your-own trees in Southampton or a bit further afield. Try these locations for the perfect tree:

1. is "the place" in Southampton for your Christmas tree and outdoor (and indoor) decorating needs. Friendly and knowledgeable, Lynch's employees will advise you on which of their 3-foot to 12-foot trees will best suit your home. They deliver too.

2. Want to get a lovely cut tree and help out at the same time? The annual North Sea Lions Club Christmas Tree Sale, is on next to the on North Sea Road. All proceeds go to the Lions Club to support local charities.

3. Open seven days a week, Sundays until 4 p.m., Country Gardens (Agway) at Bridgehampton has an appealing assortment of Christmas trees, wreaths and pointsettias. Country Gardens is located at 125 Snake Hollow Road in Bridgehampton.

4. Driving out East this weekend? Stop at the Christmas Tree Sale, on the main road in Bridgehampton, just past the on Montauk Highway. Santa is usually on the side of the road to wave you in. They have a selection of live and cut trees, wreaths and pine garlands.

5. The Laurel Group in Water Mill, well known for their landscape artistry, are also offering Christmas trees this season. You are sure to find a tasteful tree to grace your living room. Stop in at 910 Montauk Hwy to have a look.

6. Voted the "Best of the Best" in Dan's List since 1998, Hampton Nursery and Landscape Inc., will certainly help you find a winner of a Christmas tree. Stop by if you are in Hampton Bays and why not stock up on springtime flowering bulbs at the same time? You can find Hampton Nursery at 205 West Montauk Highway.

7. Been shopping at the Tanger Outlet Center in Riverhead? On your way home, why not stop and get a tree. Heading east, just past the Big Duck on the right hand side of Flanders Road, Olsen's Tree Farm is offering a wide assortment of Fraser Firs, from 4 feet to 15 feet, cut or live. They also have wreaths and garlands.

8. Did someone say gingerbread? Yes, 16 Gingerbread Lane. This perfect Christmas-ey location is the home of , a classic spot to pick out a Christmas tree and all the trimmings in East Hampton. Stop in their boutique as well and you might just find some Christmas gifts at the same time.

9. The annual tree sale on the grounds on County Road 39 is going on now. They started the season with 10,000 trees, which they hope to be out of by Christmas.

10. For the really icing on the Christmas cake - take a drive over to the North Fork at 20685 Route 25 in Mattituck.  Shamrock Christmas Tree Farm lets you cut your own Christmas tree, with a wide selection of 4-foot to 10-foot spruce and firs. Or get a balled tree, handmade wreath, garland or kissing ball. Santa is there from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. On the weekends you can also get complimentary hot chocolate and popcorn with any purchase. Oh, don't forget the Christmas train ride around the farm on Fridays and the weekend. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days.
