The Great East End Clean Up Is Coming

The Great East End Clean Up! Give a Hoot!

As a Hamptons real estate broker, I am fortunate to be employed in a field where I can enjoy the beauty of The East End. It is amazing how anyone could ever disrespect such a beautiful environment.

I have had many discussions about how littering is so intolerable. It is absolutely unnecessary. I, myself, have gone through personal criticism about how much of a mess the inside of my car has been. My explanation is that I DO NOT LITTER! More so, I make an absolute fuss when I see slobs throw garbage out their window, or wherever. Littering is one of the offenses that have no justification.

Yesterday, I received an email which I am attaching the contents to this blog post. It is a copy and paste, which I believe the author will not mind. It is about a weekend where many donate their time to clean up the litter on the side of the road. It is a two-day event, but any contribution is appreciated.

Greetings!

It is again time for the Great East End Clean-Up, a volunteer based program to remove litter and debris from Southampton Town's roadsides, parks, trails, and beaches. Last year 700 participants collected 53.5 tons of litter during the two-day effort.

The 2012 Great East End Clean-Up will take place on

Saturday, April 21st and Sunday, April 22nd.
If you would like to participate — and we hope you do — all you need to do is select an area of public property such as a park, beach, roadside, or trail that's in need of cleaning. Then, complete the registration form online by Monday, April 16.

It is emphasized that the site you select must be publicly maintained.

We're asking that participants please keep all plastic grocery bags collected during the clean-up in a separate garbage bag in order to help us collect data for the Town's "A Greener Southampton: The Solution is in the Bag" campaign, an effort to reduce plastic bag usage, increase the recycling of plastic bags, and encourage the use of reusable bags.

The Town will provide garbage bags, pick sticks and disposal passes for all four Town Transfer Stations. Registrants can receive these items at the following time and locations:

Monday, April 16, at 5:30 pm
Hampton Bays Community Center
25 Ponqougue Avenue, Hampton Bays
