Driver Airlifted Following Head-on Crash in Noyac

Truck struck by driver who fell asleep was almost sent into Noyac Bay during crash, police say.

UPDATE: A man headed east on Long Beach Road Monday morning fell asleep at the wheel and drifted into oncoming traffic, hitting a landscaping truck head-on, according to police.

Sgt. Andrew Ficurilli said the driver of the Toyota Corolla sedan was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There were three men in the truck, one of whom was taken by Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Southampton Hospital, he said.

Sag Harbor Fire Department was on scene and cut off the top of the sedan to extricate the victim, Ficurilli said.

The landscaping truck came to rest on top of boulders halfway down an embankment.

Serious Crash Brings Medevac Helicopter to Noyac

A medevac helicopter was called to Noyac Monday morning to airlift a victim of a two-vehicle accident on Long Beach Road, according to police.

Southampton Town Police Sgt. Andrew Ficurilli said the accident occurred around 8 a.m., across from Harbor Drive and Bay Point. The crash sent one vehicle down an embankment, toward Noyac Bay but not into the water, he said.

Ficurilli said that Sag Harbor Fire Department and Southampton Town bay constables were on scene, in addition to police. The helicopter had not left the scene yet, as of 9 a.m., he said.

No further details on the nature of the crash or the victims were immediately available.
