Rail-Crossing Work Causes County Road 39A Lane Closures

Part of the eastbound lane closed.

UPDATE TWO, 2:13 p.m. May 2 — Southampton Town Hall received word late Thursday morning that the Long Island Rail Road is doing work on a rail crossing in the area  — and as a result a stretch of the County Road 39A eastbound lane was closed for an hour and will be closed for a time Friday as well.

The lane was closed between 11 a.m. and noon Thursday, according to a town statement, and the lane is expect to be closed again Friday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

According to a statement from the town, the LIRR is working on a rail crossing that intersects County Road 39A.  The road has been under construction for several months as it is widened. The LIRR closed the road for a couple nights in March to implement safety upgrades at the crossing and more safety improvements are being done this week.

The closure Friday is expected to affect between the Hampton Road and David White's Lane intersections, according to the town, which noted that though the advisory lasts through 3 p.m., the closure could in fact end earlier.

Traffic will be detoured to Hampton Road and David White's Lane to get around the lane closure.
