Bridgehampton Budget Passes With 73.3% of Vote

Jennifer Vinski receives most votes in three-way race for three School Board seats.

Bridgehampton School District voters approved a 4.4 percent increase in the tax levy during a budget vote and School Board election Tuesday.

The final tally was 137 to 50 — or 73.2 percent in favor.

The spending plan totals $11,212,635, which is a 4.83 percent year-to-year increase. According to a district presentation, the tax rate is estimated to be $0.02 per $1,000 of assessed property value. That amounts to a $46.59 annual tax increase for the average single-family home in Bridgehampton — assessed at $2 million.

A proposition to provide $160,000 to the Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreation center for child care services passed 139 to 48.

Voters also approved a proposition to expend an estimated $60,525 to provide busing for ninth- through 12th-grade students who live up to 25 miles from their school; the previous cap was 15 miles. It passed 109-78.

There were three seats available on the School Board, and only three candidates. Two terms are expiring, while the third spot is on the ballot to fulfill former School Board member Elizabeth Kotz’s unexpired term. Incumbent JoAnn Comfort declined to seek re-election.

Jennifer Vinski, who is a member of the district’s audit committee, was elected to a full term with 147 votes.  Incumbent Lawrence LaPointe received another three-year term with 143 votes. Incumbent Gabriela Braia, who was appointed to fill Kotz’s seat until an election could be held, received 113 votes and now will finish out the remainder of Kotz's term.

There were 11 write-in votes for Jeannine Stallings, one for Bruce Bombkowski, and one for Philip Cammann.
