Relief for Local Governments

County clerks now eligible to receive revenue from online DMV transactions.

In an effort to save local governments money, I supported a measure in the final 2012-13 State Budget that will allow county clerks to share in the fees collected online from State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) transactions. It doesn’t make sense that, currently, county clerk offices retain a portion of the fee if the transaction is done in person, but the state takes the whole fee if it’s done online.

This is good news for the East End. Rather than continuing an unfunded mandate, we are providing much-needed relief to local governments through the county clerk’s office.
