New Year Marks New State Laws in Effect

January 1st not only marked the beginning of a promising new year, it brought a new set of State laws into effect that will improve the quality of life for many New Yorkers.

With the goal of a greener future in mind, New York State waived the 4 percent sales tax on the sale and installation of commercial solar energy system equipment (Ch. 406 of 2012). This incentive for business owners should jumpstart the installation of solar energy units, help local businesses save money on their energy bills, create more green jobs and help protect our

environment.

The new year also means good news for New York's farm breweries. Farms can now sell their New York State-labeled beer and cider to any New York State-licensed wholesaler or retailer, as well as directly to customers for consumption on and off their properties (Ch. 108 of 2012). This law will help them expand their businesses, increasing tourism and creating new jobs.

To help make this year a healthier one for our families, it is now against New York State law to sell electronic cigarettes to anyone under 18 years old (Ch. 448 of 2012). While manufacturers claim "e-cigarettes" are a healthier alternative to cigarette smoking, little is known about their effects on the body. By prohibiting the sale of these unregulated products to minors, we protect our children from unknown health risks.

Two other laws that recently went into effect require hospitals treating newborns to offer parents, parental guardians and caregivers Bordetella pertussis (whooping cough) vaccinations (Ch. 215 of 2012); and require mammography service providers to notify patients if a mammogram demonstrates dense breast tissue (Ch. 265 of 2012).

Finally, January 1st marked the establishment of 150 new Assembly and 63 new Senate legislative districts in New York State (Ch. 16 of 2012). That means you may have a new State Assemblymember. To look up yourAssemblymember by address, please visit the Assembly website at http://assembly.state.ny.us/ and click on the "Who is my Assemblymember" link.

Last year, we made significant progress in getting our State back on track and helping strengthen our economy, but more needs to be done. As we kick off a new state legislative session, I am eager to work on priorities for
East families.

I could care less about this, I want to know where you stand on gun rights? Are you going to support Herr Cuomo's silly attack on our Constitution or are you going to fight for law-abiding, tax paying and voting citizens rights? Your infopage seems seriously devoid of any information.

I too am an East End handgun owner and am outraged at Cuomo's nonsensical and ludicrous restrictions on the law abiding. These restrictions will do nothing to prevent an insane person from killing.

I will tell you from past experience that Fred Thiele is not pro gun.He will side with whomever he thinks will garner him the most votes in the next election.Fred epitimizes the old saying "How can you tell a polictition is lying?" The answer is"His lips are moving".Nuff said!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fifteen years ago K mart in Bridgehampton applied for an FFL to sell guns and ammunition.A group of local sportsman including myself met with Fred and he assured us that he would support K Marts appilcition. He smiled at us and shook our hands and told us we had nothing to worry about. Two days later Fred came out against the aplication.East end sportsman have not forgotten Fred lying to us.You wonder why he only gets 65% of the vote when he runs unapposed.

Come on Fed, your constituents want an answer?
Do you support Cuomo and the radical leftist and their attack on the Bill of Rights? Yes or no?
Hazel Wilkonson the First January 11, 2013 at 05:00 pm
"I could care less about jobs, economy, environment - I love my gun!" You gun fetishists are truly pathetic. Every single issue in America comes down to your guns, which you probably spend way too much time cleaning and admiring.
Preliator January 11, 2013 at 05:07 pm
Hazel, this is a topic that is at the forefront of many peoples thoughts and concerns. You may not appreciate the topic but there are many who feel that their rights are being threatened. It is unfortunate that yet again you can not offer commentary with out insulting people of a different point of view.
Hazel Wilkonson the First January 11, 2013 at 05:20 pm
Hah! Preliar, you are one of a kind! Have you read your own posts or do you copy and paste from the Drudge Report? This article has nothing to do with your precious guns and only the most simple-minded of zealots refer to someone as "Herr" whatever.
If you're worried you won't pass a background check, I understand why.
Darren Gengarelly Sr. January 12, 2013 at 02:59 pm
It does mention making getting drunk and killing people will now be even easier.
So many innocent children murdered at the hands of alcohol. Right Hazel? It kills many more than guns so it must be worse. Right?
Darren Gengarelly Sr. January 12, 2013 at 03:03 pm
Fred has never failed to secure himself to whichever hat that will keep him elected.
Dem , Rep , Indy. He has worn them all.

Well Fred I see you voted yea for the gun control legislation.I always knew you were a piece of crap!!!!
Greenery January 16, 2013 at 12:31 am
If gun supporters are resting their argument on the need to defend against tyranny, what are you waiting for? Your gun hasn't protected you against tyranny to this point and you aren't willing to use it against your government anyway.

You have to be careful with fascists, I am sure Herr Cuomo is quite well protected by heavily armed assault weapon wielding high-capacity magazine equipped storm, er, I mean, state troopers. No need to give justification to the brownshirts yet, we still have this thing called the 'legal process' to go thru, all the way up to the SCOTUS.
Say, how is Adolf Cuomo making out with that hurricane clean up? Done yet? Or helping the state's economy rebound? Oh, unemployment is still 8.3%. Crumbling roads and bridges? Still crumbling. But trashing our rights and using the blood of children to do so? Yeah, old Il Douchebag has got that covered.

Sid you must be a shill it shows by your ignorance.
Sid Viscuous June 18, 2013 at 05:19 pm
What's the matter, Maud, didn't think anyone would call you out on your lunatic conspiracy theory?Read More Your entire thesis is steeped in teaparty bs and supported by links to youtube nuts and right wing organizations. You dispute global warming because you are a shill of corporat liars who use your ignorance to promote their agenda. Yours is at textbook case of science denial "There are a number of areas of science where the evidence has become so overwhelming that a scientific consensus forms. For example, the consensus on the link between smoking and cancer, that HIV causes AIDS or that humans are causing global warming. Where there is a scientific consensus, there are often movements that deny the scientific evidence. All of these denialist movements have been found to share 5 common characteristics, including cherry picking, conspiracy theories and fake experts."

Maud, Thanks for the info. I looked it up online. Very scary stuff. The Town of Southampton isRead More playing with fire with plans for Sustainability. Just another word for Agenda 21. What fools would want to go along with this scam? Guess they want to rule our lives just like the U.N. wants to do with our property rights, food, and fuel.
