TV Pilot Set in Hamptons Will Film in North Carolina

"Revenge" to start shooting this month.

The pilot episode of which is set in the Hamptons, is projected to start filming at the end of this month — but the cameras will be no where near the Hamptons.

ABC Studios confirmed this week that "Revenge" will be filmed in North Carolina.

It is common practice in the film and television industry for stories to be set in one part of the world but filmed someplace else that could be passed off as the real thing. USA cable network's "Royal Pains," now in its second season, is also set in the Hamptons, though most of the filming occurs in a Brooklyn studio, or in upscale parts of western Suffolk and Nassau. USA occasionally films beach and vineyard scenes on the East End. Just a few months ago, star Mark Feuerstein and recurring guest star Anastasia Griffith filmed a scene on Southampton Village's Coopers Beach.

"Revenge" is centered around the character Emily, a woman who moves to the Hamptons to exact vengeance on people who destroyed her family, according to industry reports. Though originally billed as a take on "The Count of Monte Cristo," that is no longer the case, according to ABC Studios. But it is being described as a primetime soap opera.

The show was created by Mike Kelley, the man behind CBS's short-lived but critically acclaimed series "Swingtown." Phillip Noyce, the director of Angelina Jolie films "Salt" and "The Bone Collector," as well as Harrison Ford films "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger," has been tapped to direct the pilot.

Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, the executive producers of the "Twilight" film series, will produce.

The first cast member to be announced is Ashley Madekwe, who played Bambi in U.K. television series "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," which broadcasts in America on Showtime.
