Report: New Parrish Devotes Larger Space to Permanent Collection

The Observer reports the space will be more than 12,000 square feet.

is prepping for next year's move to Water Mill and a site nearly twice the size of the current space in Southampton Village, while village officials are bracing for the Parrish's absence from its downtown, The New York Observer reports.

The new space, next to , will give the museum the opportunity to showcase more of its permanent collection of over 2,600 pieces, a portion of which now sits in the museum's vault. Paintings by William de Kooning, William Merrit Chase and others are currently stowed away in ceiling racks in the soon-to-be-vacated space.

The Parrish Art Museum will devote about 7,500 square feet to the permanent collection, and use the rest of the space for outside, "world-class" exhibitions that have helped to build the museum's reputation, the report states.

The $26.2 million price tag is nearly paid for, and the museum plans to host its annual in the new space next year, according to the Observer.
