Indie Thriller Movie Shoots in Southampton

'Dark Was the Night' began production Sunday in Southampton Village.

Cameras were rolling at Catena's Market in Southampton Village Sunday as principal photography began on "Dark Was the Night," an independent thriller from Caliber Media Co.

"Dark Was the Night" is a pick off the 2009 Black List, "Hollywood's informal collection of the best unproduced scripts," according to cinemablend.com. The film stars Kevin Durand ("Real Steel") and Lukas Hass ("Brick").

The story, penned by screenwriter Tyler Hisel, centers on the horror unleashed when a greedy logging company encroaches on the forests surrounding a remote community, cinemablend.com reports.

This is third year in a row that Caliber Media Co. is shooting an independent film in the Hamptons. Led by Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller, who family has a home in Southampton, Caliber Media first came to the South Fork in the spring of 2010, to shoot "Enter Nowhere" at locations including Catena's and Camp Blue Bay in East Hampton. "Enter Nowhere" stars Sara Paxton, Scott Eastwood, Katherine Waterson, Shaun Sipos and Christopher Denham. It was an official selection at Screamfest and had its local premiere earlier this month in Westhampton Beach.

Then in 2011, Caliber Media produced "Refuge," written and directed by Jessica Goldberg and starring Krysten Ritter ("Breaking Bad"), Madeleine Martin ("Californication") and several other rising stars.
