Kathryn Markel Fine Arts is pleased to announce "Andrea Shapiro and Meredith Pardue - Intuitions" at the Bridgehampton Gallery.

Andrea Shapiro paints intuitively.  Forms consist of geometric elements such as squares, circles, ovals and hand or ruler drawn lines. Her paintings initially draw in the viewer with a bold first impression and then hold their attention with the subtle intricacies found in texture and multiple layers. She experiments with different tools, applications, paints  and mediums,  and  draws references from nature and her surroundings. The work is an organic growth, and the act of layering, scraping away and playing with color unveils a welcome surprise. As she says, "I influence the painting as much as the process influences me and eventually the finished piece reveals itself."  She lives in East Hampton and has shown her work in galleries around the country.

Meredith Pardue  paints intuitively as well, combining the random actions of painting with controlled, deliberate mark making to describe each form,  which often appears floral or plantlike in structure .Although forms are similar  to, and possibly even derivative of, those found in nature, ultimately the paintings are a visual record of an unplanned dialog between the artist and a blank canvas. Together the marks and forms create a visual language that reads as something unique to each viewer.  The painting is a visual investigation.  As Pardue says" I am most interested in creating snapshots, in extracting singular experiences from life's endless cycles or growth and decay, and in transforming the public worlds of nature and human dynamic into a place of private knowledge.  Pardue shows her works in galleries around the country and lives and works in Austin, TX.
