Corpus Christi: Playing with Redemption
A documentary feature inspired by
Terrence McNally's play Corpus Christi. In 1998, "Corpus Christi," a modern day passion play by Tony award winning playwright Terrence McNally, was set to open in New York City but was met with mob-like protests, bomb and death threats. Overshadowed by metal detectors and heightened security, the play fell somewhat into obscurity. Six years ago, LA-based 108 Productions' revival of the play catapulted into an Internationally Acclaimed tour, even amongst their own continued protests, death threats and face-to-face meetings with the Religious Right. McNally's script ignited national dialogue and shone the light on religious homophobia, bullying, marriage equality and HIV/AIDS...issues the gay community and our straight allies are still struggling to gain ground on in 2012. This fundraising screening will benefit the I AM Love Campaign and Tour of the film and play.
