Written as a birthday present for violinist Joseph Joachim, the delightful Scherzo which opens our second soiree has put generations of concert-goers in the party mood. Paul Brantley’s virtuosic flute sonata follows with the unabashedly emotional Elegy by Josef Suk providing an appropriate counterpoint. We end with Argentenian tango master Astor Piazzolla’s Le Grand Tango for cello and piano. Don’t be surprised if your companion dips you on the way out of the Church!
